MUSIC | If you've been awake sometime in the past two years, there's a good chance that you've heard a vocoder. Fiddy and his G-Unit henchmen just used it on their track, "Rider," off their latest mixtape dissing Fat Joe titled "Elephant in the Sand." Snoop Dogg used it on his sleeper '08 hit, "Sensual Seduction," and how can we really talk about the vocoder without mentioning Teddy-Pen-Her-Ass-Down, aka T-Pain? Of course, the legacy of the vocoder far surpasses the Hip-Hop Billboard Charts of the last two years, and truth be told, what many people think is a vocoder is actually a talk box.

The first issue of The Meridian arrived on September 24, 1964. The paper would go on to report on the college's transition from Hunter to Lehman, on demonstrations against the Vietnam War in the sixties, a student takeover of the campus in the seventies, and the expansion of the college throughout the eighties and nineties. Together with the Special Collections Division of the Leonard Lief Library, The Meridian is seeking to preserve its fragile archives. If you are interested in helping digitize this historic collection please call 718 960 4966 or email us.
